Digital Europe

Digital Europe is an EU funding program aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of Europe. It runs from 2021 to 2027 with a budget of €7.5 billion. The program focuses on bringing digital technology to businesses, citizens, and public administrations to enhance Europe's digital capabilities and competitiveness.

Objectives

  • Promote the Deployment of Digital Technologies: Accelerate the adoption of advanced digital technologies across various sectors.

  • Strengthen Digital Skills: Enhance digital competencies among the workforce and citizens.

  • Increase Europe's Technological Sovereignty: Reduce dependency on non-EU technologies and foster innovation within the EU.

 

Key Areas of Focus

  • High-Performance Computing (HPC)

    • Establishing and supporting advanced supercomputing infrastructure.

    • Making supercomputing and data processing capacities accessible to a wide range of users, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

    • Building and deploying AI technologies across various sectors.​

    • Creating European data spaces to ensure the availability of high-quality data for AI applications.

  • Cybersecurity

    • Enhancing the EU’s cybersecurity capabilities.​

    • Supporting the development and deployment of advanced cybersecurity tools and infrastructures.

  • Advanced Digital Skills

    • Training and reskilling the workforce to meet the demands of the digital economy.​

    • Establishing training programs and courses on key digital technologies such as AI, cybersecurity, and HPC.

  • Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs)

    • Establishing a network of DIHs to support the digital transformation of businesses, particularly SMEs.​

    • Providing access to technology testing, financial advice, and market intelligence.

  • Deployment and Best Use of Digital Capacities

    • Ensuring the widespread use of digital technologies in public administrations and across sectors such as healthcare, education, and transport.​

    • Promoting interoperable and secure digital solutions and services.


Implementation

  • Funding Mechanisms: Grants, procurement, and financial instruments to support projects aligned with the program's objectives.
